Sake Japanese Steak House is now open in the space previously occupied by Bar Louie. The restaurant is currently in its soft opening phase and taking reservations. Its menu consists of a variety of appetizers, hibachi, sushi, and more.

Montgomery County Restaurant Owner Named ‘Regarding Her’ Scholar, Receives $5,000 Grant
Twenty woman-owned restaurants and other food-related retail ventures in the Washington, DC and Los Angeles areas, learned today that they will receive $5,000 grants, and potentially even more valuable mentoring and training from leaders in the industry, to help their businesses thrive. This includes Montgomery County’s very own Scratch Kitchen in Olney.
Woman-Owned Charcuterie and Wine Bar, The Lady Vintner, to Open in Rockville
The Lady Vintner is coming to the lower level of the BLVD Forty Four high-rise apartment tower located at 42 Maryland Ave in Rockville. It will be taking over the space previously occupied by Pour Vino N Hops. The bar plans to offer high-end wine and beer and will feature an in-house sommelier.
Kapow Buddy opening at Montgomery Mall in Bethesda
Is coming soon to Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda. It's the latest in a long line of Chipotle-style fast-casual bowl restaurants. This time, the theme cuisine is Thai. Your imagination will suggest to you that a grain base will be loaded with vegetables, proteins, and Thai cuisine toppings, and - incredibly - your hunch is correct. In fact, Westfield says in its promotion of the restaurant that "Kapow Buddy is eager to introduce their famous Thai food in the 'Bowl Style' to offer customers a variety of choices including grains, proteins, toppings, and more." When it opens, look for Kapow Buddy on Level 1 in the Old Navy wing.

It was a nostalgic night of punk, reggae, and silliness as The Aquabats stopped at the Fillmore Silver Spring Monday night on their latest tour, Finally! The Album Tour. Left Alone got the Monday night festivities started with an enjoyable 30-minute set. A California-based punk rock band, it formed back in 1996 by lead vocalist and guitarist Elvis Cortez. In 2024, the rest of the lineup includes Pablo Fiasco, Jimmy Jam, and Ben Shaw. The ska-influenced punk went over well with the Silver Spring crowd; it was a cool set that even included some Spanish-language songs. Left Alone’s latest release was 2021’s Checkers & Plaid, released on the label Cortez formed, Smelvis Records.
