Homecoming Festival keeps things lively in Gibsonburg

The Donut Run Mile gets a lot of attention in Gibsonburg, but the Homecoming Festival is more than just delicious breakfast confections.

Mail bag: What the devil is a Pyrate Fest, and why can't you spell?

A reader asked why I kept misspelling pirate, in reference to the Pyrate Fest at Put-in-Bay . Because the question is timely, the festival took place over last weekend, I'll explain.

Think about your goofiest friend, and the guttural mumble with he does when mimicking any of the characters of the "Pirates of the Caribbean," or the Rolling Stones' Keith Richards. On an aside, Richards inspired Captain Jack Sparrow and had roles in two of the movies, ultimately to be replaced by Paul McCartney.
