Dating all the way back to the 1970s, The Nelons, which was once known as the Rex Nelon Singers, showcased their Christian faith and love for southern gospel music. Based out of Atlanta, George, the group released dozens of albums over the decades. Just last year, the group released the album Beautiful. Sadly, tragedy struck on Friday when several members of the group passed away due to a plane crash. Barely a few days after the crash, Autumn Nelon Streetman decided to take a moment and thank fans for their continued support.

Although the details of what caused the crash are still unknown as an investigation continues, it is known that the gospel group was traveling on their private plane. They looked to perform at the Alaskan Gaither Homecoming Cruise. But they sadly never made it as the plane crashed in Gillette, Wyoming. According to the National Transportation Safety Board, they believe the crash happened due to an issue with the autopilot.

Sharing a picture of the group on Instagram, Autumn captioned the post writing, “As many of you have heard by now, my father and mother, Jason and Kelly Nelon Clark, along with my sister, Amber and brother-in-law, Nathan, as well as our dear friends Melodi Hodges, Larry and Melissa Haynie were involved in a tragic plane crash on Friday.” She continued, “Thank you for the prayers that have been extended already to me, my husband, Jamie, and our soon-to-be-born baby boy, as well as Jason’s parents, Dan and Linda Clark. We appreciate your continued prayers, love and support as we navigate the coming days.”

Natalie Grant Offers Autumn Nelon Streetman Her Love And Prayers

Gaining thousands of likes, fans rallied around the singer as she mourned the tragic loss. “The Lord is near to those who are brokenhearted. We are praying for you and your family during this difficult time. We are comforted in knowing they loved & served the Lord till their last breath. Strength to you.” Even singer Natalie Grant took a moment to offer her love. “I’m just so sorry. Praying for the peace that passes understanding because I know this makes no sense.”

With The Nelons scheduling shows through September 2025, the future of the group is unknown. The band released their newest single, “There’s a Hole In The Heart”, on July 19th.
