GIRARD, Ohio (WKBN) – The Girard Fire Department has two ambulances.

The department received its new ambulance on Monday. It also took possession of a 2014 ambulance that it purchased from the Champion Township Fire Department last week.

This marks a new era for the department which hasn’t had ambulance service for about two decades.

Chief Jim Petruzzi says it’s all thanks to county commissioners who awarded about $225,000 in ARPA money for the purchase of the new ambulance and city council.

Petruzzi said only $20,000 came out of the city budget for the used ambulance.

“This is something that has been missing for the last 20 years. We are ecstatic to get back into running this service and providing care to our residents,” Petruzzi said.

Both ambulances are currently in service.

At this point, Lane LifeTrans is still the city’s primary ambulance provider due to contractual obligations.
