Prep sports recap for May 21, 2024

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) — Morgan Lowe hit a grand slam in the first inning and Cora Ellison pitched Illini Bluffs past visiting Payson-Seymour, 6-1, in a class 1A softball sectional semifinal in Glasford.

Ellison fanned ten and the Tigers moved into Friday’s sectional championship game. Illini Bluffs, which is two wins away from advancing to state for the fifth straight season, awaits the winner of Wednesday’s game between Havana and Pleasant Hill.

LeRoy beat Milford, 6-4, in another 1A softball sectional semifinal. Auburn beat Tremont, 10-4, in a class 2A sectional semifinal.

In the class 3A regional semifinals, Dunlap, Pontiac, East Peoria, Limestone and Washington were winners.

In the soccer postseason, Williamsville eliminated Central Catholic, 2-1, in a 1A sectional championship. Minooka beat Normal Community, 4-1, in a 3A sectional game.

The 2A Washington sectional doubleheader was postponed and moved to EastSide Centre in East Peoria Wednesday. Richwoods will face Morton at 5 p.m. while Notre Dame plays U-High at 7 p.m.
