Flood conditions along the Missouri River are now forecast to stretch into next week, following heavy rains in parts of Western Missouri.

While Glasgow remains the only gauge along the river where the National Weather Service is calling for moderate flooding, projected crests are rising according to hydrologist Scott Williams, and they’re expected to top out later than previously predicted.

As of Tuesday morning, the Missouri River at Glasgow is expected to crest at 29 feet on Friday evening about the same time that the river will crest at 25 feet in Miami. Williams notes that minor flooding is impacting or will soon reach some tributaries.

Meanwhile, the Blackwater River at Valley City reached a crest of 24.87 feet Tuesday morning, just shy of moderate flood stage, and is forecast to exit flood stage by this evening. Downstream near Blue Lick, the Blackwater is projected to crest early Thursday morning in minor stage at 24.5 feet. National Weather Service hydrologist Scott Williams notes that rain in the forecast later this week across the Missouri River Basin could impact flood levels with the ground saturated in many parts of the Upper Midwest.
