July 23 is a  major milestone for the Glendale primary election, which features two competitive council races and two walkovers.

Today is last day to mail ballots back to Maricopa County Elections, in order for them to be received in time for the election. Voters who do not have early ballots also may come in person to make their selections for elected officials at a polling place in Glendale.

Voters who have early ballots can drop them off at several locations in the city by 7 p.m. on July 30, the day of the primary election. One such location is the Glendale clerk’s office in the Civic Center Annex at 5752 W. Glenn Drive.

In the Cactus District, newcomer Lupe Conchas is challenging incumbent Vice Mayor Ian Hugh. In the Yucca District, longtime council member Joyce Clark is retiring while first-time candidates Lupe Encinas and Dianna Guzman are vying for the seat to represent residents in that western Glendale district.

City Councilmember Ray Malnar is running unopposed in the Sahuaro District and Mayor Jerry Weiers also does not face any challengers.
