Sky Valley Police Chief taking Job at South Dakota State University
After seven-and-a-half years of service as Police Chief in the City of Sky Valley, Vaughn Estes is leaving. Chief Estes said he will miss Sky Valley and its residents very much. “We love this place. I brought my family here. We invested ourselves in this community. We bought our home inside the city so that we could be a part of the city because I believe that if I’m going to be the chief of police in a community I need to be a part of that community, so I bought a house in the city. We got our children enrolled here in the schools and left the Metro-Atlanta area and it has been a blessing ever since. We’ve loved our time here. It’s one of the most enchanted and beautiful places. There’s not many places like Sky Valley left around the country.” Chief Estes is moving to South Dakota and returning to a role in education. “You know I’ve had my career in law enforcement but I’ve also taught college for many years. I’m going to be returning to that side of my career. I will be going to work for South Dakota State University. I will be working and helping them to develop a criminal justice department there at the university.” Chief Estes began his law enforcement career in 1987. His last day in service to Sky Valley will be July 31, 2024.
