Carroll County Conservation Hosting First Pella Summer Concert Series This Weekend
Rain or shine this weekend, Carroll County Conservation is excited to host the first concert of the 2nd annual Pella Summer Concert Series tomorrow (Saturday) evening. Naturalist Dakota Popp says the country-rock singer scheduled has performed all over the Midwest and is excited to bring his talents back to Carroll.
Carroll County Supervisors Delay Land Gift To City Of Halbur For Trail Development Pending Clarification On Agreement

The Carroll County Board of Supervisors is considering a gift of county-owned land to the City of Halbur for potential trail development. The board hosted a public hearing during its July 15 meeting regarding the property transfer and did not receive any comments from the public opposed to the county handing over the half-mile stretch of land just on the west side of Halbur. The supervisors were supportive of the move, but Board Chair Stephanie Haumsan and District 3 Supervisor Gene Meiners wanted clarification on whether the county had first right of refusal.
Carroll City Council To Review Ziegler, ECHO Group Developer Agreements And Plans For Burned Shelter House At Monday’s Meeting
Economic development will be the primary focus of the Carroll City Council’s upcoming meeting on Monday. The council convenes at 5:15 p.m. at Carroll City Hall on July 22. One of their first items of business is to cancel the public hearing for the Ziegler Caterpillar development agreement. City Manager Aaron Kooiker says it is important to understand this is a procedural cancellation, and Ziegler remains dedicated to building a new retail site on Carroll’s western edge.

Greene County Supervisors Will Meet Tomorrow Morning
The Greene County Board of Supervisors will meet today. The Board will consider for approval the 2024-25 renewal of the Iowa Communities Assurance Pool (ICAP), the 2024 fiscal year county report of the substance abuse prevention grant from New Opportunities, and the semi-annual quarterly investment report from the county treasurer.

The Greene County Schools board of education spent much of the July 17 meeting preparing for the 2024-25 school year, approving fees, student and staff handbooks, and more. Greene County parents will see no increase in the fees they pay when they register their children for school for the coming year.
CCSD School Board Approved Of $213K Project For Fairview Playground Resurfacing
The Carroll Community School District’s Fairview Elementary playground will look a little different for the upcoming school year, with the resurfacing project approved during Monday’s Board of Education meeting. GameTime with Cunningham Recreation has been awarded the contract to resurface the area, replacing the woodchips with a soft, rubber surface. Superintendent Dr. Casey Berlau says the district is looking to spend just over $213,000 for this project for two main reasons.
Jefferson Matters Hoping for Better Than 2019 Semi-Finalist for Great American Main Street Award
One organization in Jefferson is moving forward with an application that would signify a high achievement. Jefferson Matters is once again applying to be a Great American Main Street Award (GAMSA), which is given to main street communities across the country that show their excellence in comprehensive preservation-based commercial district revitalization. Jefferson Matters Executive Director Matt Wetrich says in 2019 they were a semi-finalist, but they have their sights set higher this year.
Jefferson City Council to Consider the 2024 Seal-Coating and Crack Sealing Program
The Jefferson City Council will meet tomorrow night. The Council will consider for approval a resolution for a farm lease agreement with the landowner of farmland around the Jefferson Municipal Airport, a resolution to transfer funds and close out other accounts, and purchasing a sander for the streets department. Additionally, the Council will consider approving the 2024 seal-coating and crack sealing program, an air conditioner for the golf course clubhouse, and hiring a water department operator.

Tomorrow is a free program with the Jefferson Public Library as they host their next Author Talk Series. Library Director Jane Millard says Jeff Bremer recently published “A New History of Iowa” as the Iowa State University American History Professor goes through chronicle events of Iowa’s history. She points out that this is an up to date look at the state’s history with various impactful events that happened and the people that Bremer talked to.
