In an era where social media is taking over and an increasing amount of workers are choosing to work from home, side hustles are also beginning to take the spotlight. Recent studies show that an increasing number of workers in the U.S. — particularly Gen Z — are choosing to pursue side hustles. While some choose to have one or two side gigs on top of their full-time career, many are quitting their regular jobs to pursue multiple side hustles instead.

Side gigs are valued for their flexibility, opportunities to develop skills and the extra income they offer. For Gen Z women trying to establish themselves in the workforce, side gigs are a great way to make a little extra money in ways that can accommodate busy schedules.

“Having a side hustle can help you grow your network, expand your knowledge and experience in your desired career, and allow you to pursue something you are truly passionate about,” said Toni Frana, manager and career expert at FlexJobs . “It is also a great way to earn extra income.”

When pursuing a side hustle, there are several things that one must consider, such as how much time you can commit, what hours you are available and what kind of work you wish to pursue.

“Considering your strengths and passions and researching what side gig opportunities exist in those areas is a great place to start,” Frana said.

Here are the best side hustles for Gen Z women, according to experts .

Money mistakes the super wealthy never make - that you might be doing now.

    Taking Online Surveys

There are various websites online where Gen Z women can get paid to take surveys. While the pay isn’t very high, it’s a great way to earn extra money in your spare time and can easily fit into your busy schedule.

    Freelance Work

Whether you’re a writer, editor or graphic designer, taking on freelance gigs is a great side hustle that can accommodate your busy schedule, bring in extra income and build up your portfolio.

    Consulting

Consultants use their expertise in a particular field to provide advice to people in that field. Companies will hire consultants to offer insights, solutions and an outsider’s perspective on different problems or objectives the company is trying to tackle.

“Identify something that you’re good at that other companies might be interested in hiring part time for, like strategic planning, graphic design or one-off projects that require niche expertise,” said Annie Cole, money coach and founder of Money Essentials for Women . “Share your expertise within your network to see if anyone is interested in your service offering.”

    Coaching

Coaching is similar to consulting, except it focuses more on working with individuals rather than companies.

“Define your coaching offering — what problem will you help someone solve — and share it within your network to see if you get any interest,” Cole said.

    Online Courses or Tutoring

If you have a lot of expertise on a certain subject or topic and can teach it to others, consider using your knowledge to earn extra income. This is also a great side hustle for Gen Z women who may be recent college graduates and have their school knowledge fresh in their minds.

“You can host your course on an online course platform like Teachable, or host your course on your own website and drive traffic from a social media account,” Cole said.

    Content Creation

In the era of digital marketing, affiliate marketing has been growing in popularity as a Gen Z side hustle. On TikTok and other social media platforms, you can promote content, create content and be an ambassador for products and services. While doing so, you can earn money from commissions. Since Gen Z has grown up in the age of social media, this side gig is a great option for women who enjoy remote work and are social media savvy.

Many Gen Z women can earn extra money from pursuing a side gig in social media content creation. With this job comes flexibility and diverse opportunities.

“With a smartphone and some free editing tools, Gen Z women can create content in niches like fashion, beauty, fitness, cooking, travel or gaming,” said finance coach Amy Jam . “This side hustle offers potential for monetization through ad revenue, brand partnerships, sponsored posts, affiliate marketing and merchandise sales. It also allows for flexible hours and can be managed alongside other commitments.”
