OPPD Workers Return From Helping Utilities In Iowa/Illinois
The Omaha Public Power District crews that went to Iowa and Illinois to assist with power restoration efforts after damaging storms are returning home to Nebraska. OPPD officials say that 17 employees were dispatched to Iowa and Illinois after thousands of people lost electricity following a derecho earlier this month. Officials say mutual aid is about utilities helping utilities restore power to customers.
Storm reports: Nine confirmed tornadoes from July 15 derecho
PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — Severe storms blasted through central Illinois on July 15, bringing widespread damaging wind, heavy rain and tornadoes to the region. Observed thunderstorm winds reached over 100 mph in a few locations, both a result of straight-line winds and tornadoes. Outside of tornadoes, most areas experienced wind gusts 60 to 80 mph which resulted in numerous trees and power lines being damaged across the region.

Police investigate pharmacy break-ins
With at least a half-dozen pharmacy break-ins in recent days around southern Illinois, investigators are looking at bringing in help from the feds to crack the case. On Tuesday of last week, the WellCreek Pharmacy in Bethalto was hit at about 2:30am. They only took drugs – the cash was left alone.

A study published in the Journal of Personalized Medicine claims that therapy reversed symptoms of severe autism in twin girls, with one patient's symptoms being "reversed to the point of being indistinguishable from children who had never had a history of autism symptoms."

CAHOKIA HEIGHTS – Eighteen area high school juniors and seniors were introduced to the fascinating world of aviation during Southwestern Illinois College (SWIC)’s inaugural Aviation Summer Sampler Camp held July 11 through July 13. During the three-day camp, they learned about all aspects of aviation through a combination of hands-on experiences, panels with students and professionals, and presentations by special guest speakers. The highlight of the camp came on the final day, when campers and their families gathered at St. Louis Downtown Airport to close out their experience with a flight in the cockpit of a real plane.
Woman charged after June road rage shooting in north St. Louis
ST. LOUIS – A St. Louis woman has been charged with a road rage shooting in a north city neighborhood. According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s probable cause statement, the shooting happened on June 17 in the 2400 block of Kingshighway Boulevard, located in the Kingsway West neighborhood.

Starting Thursday, July 25, guests can visit the 2-acre sunflower field and cut their own flowers to take home, according to a release from Eckert's.
