Goings Jr. is an exception. Thanks to modern technology and ongoing efforts by the U.S. government, more and more American servicemen and women are at last returning to our shores and their families.
Former UNK women's hoops star enters RMAC Hall of Fame
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A former Nebraska-Kearney athlete is being honored for her standout career. The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference inducted Jennifer Warner Ramsey into the RMAC Hall of Fame earlier this month. Warner Ramsey played basketball for UNK from 1995-97 and won conference player of the year twice. The transfer from Iowa State guided the Lopers to a 54-8 record over two seasons and to a pair of wins in the NCAA Division ll tournament.

Rod Hollman receives Defending the Soil Award
Rod Hollman of Hollman Angus Farm near Martell, Nebraska, is the 2024 recipient of the Nebraska Marine Daegan William-Tyeler Page Defending the Soil Memorial Award. The award was presented during the Graze Master Group Paths to Profitability event held in Denton, Nebraska July 24. Greg Page, Corporal Daegan Page’s father, was in attendance to help present the award.
Camden Grass Fire scorches 167 acres northeast of Scottsbluff
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - Fire crews have fully contained a grass fire in the Panhandle that the state fire marshal said was re-ignited from a burn pile earlier in the week. The fire started northeast of Scottsbluff around 12:30 p.m. Thursday near County Road G and Lake Minatare Road. An evacuation advisory was issued for the area.
Priest loses lawsuit against Archdiocese of Omaha
LINCOLN, Neb. (WOWT) - In a ruling issued Friday, a former associate priest in the Archdiocese of Omaha lost his appeal to the Nebraska Supreme Court. Father Andrew Syring sued in October 2020 after he was removed from his position for what the archdiocese claimed were significant boundary violations with young adults and minors.

BEATRICE – The Gage County Fair heads into its weekend events of Four-H and Open Class shows, exhibits and grandstand entertainment. Gage County Ag Society President Don Esau says attendance has been good through the first half of the fair. "Bull riding on Wednesday night, we had a good turnout for our concert last night...we have races tonight. It's a little bit warm but people seem to be in good spirits...and we always have to remember that last year, we had a 114 heat index....so when you complain about the heat, that's good....but it could be worse."
Rhule comments on how the new player limits could effect walk-ons
The Nebraska Cornhuskers have always been known for having a successful walk-on program. That could soon be a thing of the past if a new NCAA rule goes into effect. The current proposal would see football, which currently has a scholarship restriction of 85 players, have a roster limit of 105 players with no limit on scholarships. Head coach Matt Rhule says that with this possible new change, the walk-on could be a thing of the past. The way it works is there are no scholarship limits. So if you have 105 players, you can have 105 scholarship players if you want to...

Lake Hastings gets new dock and kayak launching platform
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Hastings Parks and Rec installed a new dock and kayak launching platform earlier this week. The two new platforms are located on opposite sides of Lake Hastings. The kayak launch is on the west side near South Shore Drive and the new dock is on the East side of the lake near the boat ramp.
Sewer line repairs underway in Hastings
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Johnson Service Company out of Kearney is relining sewers throughout Hastings. The company started working Thursday afternoon in the alley between South Hastings and South Denver Avenues.
