The National Weather Service (NWS) reports that hot and dry weather will persist throughout the week in the Sacramento Valley, with temperatures expected to surpass 100 degrees across the Central Valley today. A strong southwest ridge extending into Northern California is causing these conditions, with surface pressure gradients trending more offshore and a nearly non-existent marine layer along the coast.

Today’s HeatRisk is categorized as Moderate, with areas of Major HeatRisk in the northern San Joaquin Valley and Sierra foothills. The combination of high temperatures, low humidity (in the single digits and teens), and local afternoon and evening breezes will result in elevated fire weather conditions through at least Thursday.

A slight cooling trend is expected later this week as the ridge flattens and shifts eastward, with a weak trough developing over the Pacific Northwest.
