The National Weather Service in Eureka, California, has forecasted continued hot and dry conditions in the interior regions through Thursday, with a gradual decline over the weekend. High temperatures have been recorded between 95°F and 103°F, with Big Bar reaching a peak of 108°F as of 2 PM Wednesday.

A strong high-pressure system over the Four Corners and an upper-level ridge extending towards the Northeast Pacific are driving these elevated temperatures. Additionally, remnants of tropical moisture are causing high-level clouds across Northern California, while coastal areas near Mendocino are experiencing persistent stratus.

The return of the marine layer tonight will bring persistent stratus and fog late this week. However, breezy west to northwest winds are expected to create elevated to locally critical fire weather conditions in Trinity and southern Lake counties on Thursday and Friday. Despite the increase in mid to high-level moisture, thunderstorms are not anticipated due to limited instability in the area.
