The National Weather Service in Las Vegas has issued an area forecast discussion for the weekend of August 10, 2024. Monsoonal moisture is expected to continue fueling thunderstorms across southern Nevada, northwest Arizona, and eastern San Bernardino County through Sunday. High pressure over the southwestern states will keep temperatures above normal, with highs ranging from 103 to 109 degrees across the Mojave Desert zones.

Thunderstorms began developing before noon on Saturday over the mountains of southern Nevada and northwest Arizona, with favorable conditions for these storms to expand throughout the afternoon. This raises the potential for storms to move across the valleys of central and southern Clark County, including parts of the Las Vegas metro area. The storms may bring isolated heavy rainfall, especially over Mohave County and the lower Colorado River Valley.

Looking ahead to Sunday, the moist and unstable air mass will remain over much of the same region, with a slight decrease in thunderstorm chances in Clark County but a higher likelihood of heavy rainfall around northeast Mohave County near Colorado City. Drier air is forecasted to move into the region starting Monday, reducing thunderstorm chances and bringing slightly cooler temperatures for the upcoming week.
