Oakland, CA — In a groundbreaking effort to address the racial wealth gap in America, Oakland native and Basketball Hall of Famer Jason Kidd, along with NBA All-Star Jaylen Brown, have announced the launch of The XChange, a national initiative aimed at generating $5 billion in net wealth for historically marginalized communities. Following the recent announcement of the Boston XChange, the duo is now bringing their generational wealth-building solutions to Oakland, in partnership with Oakstop, a leading community organization.

The XChange is designed to create opportunities at the intersection of business and culture. By employing a place-based strategy, the initiative aims to foster economic growth through a combination of real estate development, business education, technology, and cultural competency. The Boston XChange (BXC) and Oakland XChange (OXC) will serve as central hubs, using commercial real estate to empower underserved communities.

One of the key goals of The XChange is to develop scalable and repeatable models for shared real estate ownership and impact investments. These models are intended to help underserved community members build assets and will be designed for adoption in cities across the nation. The initiative will engage professional athletes, business leaders, philanthropists, and influencers who are committed to addressing wealth inequality. This collaborative approach will allow individual cities to customize the model to their unique needs, ensuring maximum impact.

"True systemic change requires collaboration, shared vision, and collective impact," said Jaylen Brown. "By working with community partners, thought leaders, and cultural influencers, our goal is to cultivate a powerful network of support and innovation."

Jason Kidd, who has deep ties to Oakland, emphasized the national scope of the issue. "The racial wealth gap is not limited to Boston—it's a national issue, affecting Oakland and cities throughout the country," Kidd said. He has previously made significant philanthropic contributions to Oakland, including funding the Willie Keyes Recreation Center in West Oakland.
