Northern California is set for cooler temperatures and increased humidity this week, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Sacramento. Monday afternoon saw mostly sunny skies with some cumulus and mid-level clouds forming across the region. Temperatures have dropped by 3 to 8 degrees compared to Sunday, with breezy onshore winds bringing gusts of 15 to 25 mph.

A shortwave trough moving through the area is expected to enhance onshore flow, leading to a slight chance of sprinkles or light precipitation, and potentially isolated thunderstorms, especially in the higher elevations of Shasta County. Breezy southwesterly winds will continue into the overnight hours, particularly through the Delta and mountain regions.

Temperatures in the Valley and foothills are forecast to range from the 80s to low 90s on Tuesday, with mountain areas seeing 60s to mid-80s. A brief warm-up is expected on Wednesday before another shortwave brings cooler temperatures again on Thursday. Overall, temperatures this week will remain near or below seasonal averages.
