The National Weather Service in Eureka has forecasted a shift in weather patterns as an upper-level trough moves onshore, bringing below-normal temperatures to inland areas through the weekend.

Starting today, cooler temperatures and increased humidity are expected across Mendocino and Lake counties. Stronger winds, particularly in higher elevations, and a slight chance of thunderstorms are possible in far northern Trinity County. These storms, if they develop, are anticipated to quickly move northeast into Siskiyou County.

The coastal region will experience clearing of marine clouds this evening, though a deep marine layer with some cloud cover will persist. On Thursday, inland areas will see continued below-normal highs, with temperatures nearing 90 degrees in the farthest inland areas of Lake and Trinity counties. Coastal areas, particularly Mendocino, will have less cloud cover compared to the northern coast.

Saturday could bring a significant weather change as an upper-level low approaches the West Coast. This system may bring rain to Humboldt, Del Norte, and Trinity counties, with a 30 to 60 percent chance of exceeding a tenth of an inch of rain, particularly in the northern regions. Mendocino County has a lower probability of rain, and Lake County's chances are minimal. Winds and potential thunderstorms are also factors to watch, with a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms in northern Trinity County.
