Motorists traveling on westbound Interstate 80 (I-80) in Roseville should prepare for a significant traffic disruption as Caltrans announces a 55-hour closure of the Douglas Boulevard off-ramp. This closure is part of the $46.1 million Auxiliary Lane and Fifth Lane Project, aimed at improving traffic flow and safety in the area.

The closure is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. on Friday, August 16, and will last until 5 a.m. on Monday, August 19. During this time, crews will be excavating the roadway, installing new lighting, and repaving the ramp to accommodate the addition of a new fifth lane. This work is essential for the ongoing project, which is expected to be completed by spring 2025.

Motorists who usually exit at Douglas Boulevard will need to take a detour. They should continue westbound on I-80 to the Riverside Avenue exit. Once there, they can make a left at the stoplight, then another left onto the eastbound I-80 on-ramp, which will allow them to return to the Douglas Boulevard exit.

The project, spearheaded by Ghilotti Construction Company, Inc. of Santa Rosa, includes the construction of an auxiliary lane on eastbound I-80 between State Route 65 and Rocklin Road, as well as a fifth lane on westbound I-80 between Douglas Boulevard and Riverside Avenue. Additionally, the Douglas Boulevard off-ramp will be reconfigured from two lanes to one lane.

Funding for this project includes $11.5 million from Senate Bill 1 (SB 1), also known as the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017. SB 1 provides $5 billion annually in transportation funding, divided equally between state and local agencies.
