A shift in weather is on the horizon for the Sacramento Valley as a notable system moves in, bringing cooler temperatures, gusty winds, and a chance of isolated thunderstorms. The National Weather Service (NWS) reports that temperatures are expected to dip below 90 degrees today, with some areas seeing a significant drop.

This cooling trend is due to a deepening low-pressure system off the coast, which will also bring gusty winds throughout the afternoon and evening. Winds are predicted to range between 20 to 30 mph, with the northern and central Sacramento Valley potentially experiencing gusts over 30 mph.

In addition to the winds, increased humidity levels are expected, with daytime humidity reaching between 30% and 55% in the Valley. The system's moisture and upper-level support will introduce a 20-40% chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms, particularly in eastern Shasta and Tehama counties, with the highest likelihood near the Coastal Range.

Looking ahead, temperatures are expected to warm slightly from Sunday through Tuesday, though they will remain below normal for this time of year. Relative humidity will also decrease, returning to the upper teens to 20s by Monday.
