The National Weather Service in Portland has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for much of the I-5 corridor and eastern Cascade region as a strong low-pressure system brings widespread rain and thunderstorms to the Pacific Northwest. Starting this afternoon and continuing into tonight, the area can expect heavy rain, localized flash flooding—especially near wildfire burn scars—and potentially severe thunderstorms with gusty winds and large hail.

The system is associated with a well-defined upper-level low offshore and is expected to cause extensive precipitation across western Oregon and Washington. Showers and thunderstorms are moving northward, with the strongest activity anticipated in the late afternoon and evening. A return to milder weather with onshore flow is expected starting Sunday. Residents are advised to stay alert for severe weather and potential flash flooding.
