San Diego and surrounding areas will experience a brief warming trend early this week, with temperatures expected to peak on Tuesday. Highs in the Inland Empire and high desert are forecasted to reach between 100-105°F, while the lower desert could see temperatures soar to 110-115°F, about 4-8 degrees above normal.

Coastal low clouds and fog, mostly confined to San Diego County, will become patchier by midweek as high pressure aloft over Texas expands westward. This will result in less coastal cloud cover and higher inland temperatures through Tuesday.

However, a shift in the weather pattern is expected later in the week as a trough of low pressure over the Pacific Northwest moves in, bringing cooler temperatures to all areas starting Wednesday. This trough will also reestablish the marine layer, leading to increased coastal low clouds that extend further inland during the nights and mornings.

While there was a slight chance of thunderstorms in the mountains from Tuesday through Thursday, recent model guidance has significantly reduced this possibility, with only a minimal chance of storms in the mountains on Wednesday afternoon.

Overall, after the warm start, the week will trend cooler with more cloud cover and stronger onshore winds, especially in the mountains and deserts by Friday and Saturday.
