The National Weather Service in Reno has issued an updated forecast for the region, highlighting a shift in weather patterns by the end of the week.

Dry and breezy conditions with slightly below-normal temperatures are expected to persist through midweek. Daytime highs will range from the mid-80s to lower 90s in valley areas and from the mid-60s to lower 80s in the Sierra Mountains. Overnight lows are forecasted to be in the 40s to 50s, with colder Sierra Valleys approaching freezing.

Starting Thursday, a new upper air low will move from the Pacific Northwest towards the California-Oregon border. This will bring increased wind, potentially enhancing fire weather concerns, and a return of precipitation to the northern parts of the region. Rain chances will rise on Friday, with isolated showers expected on Saturday, particularly north of I-80. Some light snow may mix in with the rain in Lassen County Friday night but is not expected to accumulate.

Weekend temperatures are anticipated to be well below normal, with a notable probability of temperatures dropping to 32°F or lower in the Sierra region, especially in the colder valleys. The situation will be monitored for further updates.
