The National Weather Service Eureka has issued a weather update for the coming days, highlighting a significant shift in conditions. Dry weather and slightly below normal temperatures are expected through midweek, with coastal areas experiencing near-normal temperatures and typical night and morning low clouds. Interior Mendocino and Lake counties will face breezy conditions and low humidity today.

An upper-level trough currently off the WA/OR coast will result in temperatures being about 5 to 8 degrees below normal for inland valleys through Wednesday. The trough will be displaced by a deepening upper low moving southward, tightening the pressure gradient and enhancing afternoon breezes. This system is also expected to bring an increase in precipitation and cooler temperatures later in the week.

From Thursday through Friday, the region will see heightened winds, especially in southern Lake County, where gusts could exceed 35 mph. There’s a 50 to 70% chance of receiving at least a tenth of an inch of rainfall, with a possibility of thunderstorms increasing to 15-25%. The upper low's movement may also bring more widespread showers and thunderstorms, particularly by Friday.

Significant cooling is anticipated, with temperatures potentially dropping 10-20°F below normal. Cold spots in the interior valleys might see temperatures in the mid-30s on Friday and Saturday mornings, with a 20% chance of freezing conditions at higher elevations. By Sunday and early next week, high pressure is expected to return, bringing warmer and drier conditions to the area.
