Portland is set to experience a shift in weather as a weakening trough currently moving across the Pacific Northwest brings scattered light showers, primarily affecting southwest Washington and far northwest Oregon. These showers are expected to taper off by late evening, leading to a brief period of dry weather through early Wednesday afternoon.

However, another trough moving southward from British Columbia will bring a renewed chance of rain starting Wednesday evening. A cold front is anticipated to move onshore early Thursday, bringing light to moderate showers and a slight chance of thunderstorms, particularly along the Cascade crest. Rain is expected to continue through Friday, with a significant chance of wetting rain, which could help reduce fire activity in the region.

High temperatures will remain cooler than normal, potentially not reaching 70°F in some inland areas. The weekend will likely continue with cool and showery conditions, but by Sunday, the region is expected to dry out and warm up, with seasonably warm and dry weather continuing into early next week.
