The National Weather Service in Portland has updated its forecast, predicting a period of cool and showery weather for the region.

A weak surface trough is expected to bring light showers to the coast and Coast Range on Wednesday, while the rest of southwest Washington and northwest Oregon will likely stay dry.

A more widespread soaking rain is anticipated late Thursday through Friday as an upper-level low moves inland over Oregon, Washington, and northern California.

This system will bring several rounds of light to moderate rain showers, with a slight chance of thunderstorms, primarily in the Cascades.

The rain is expected to dampen wildfire activity, while temperatures remain cool, potentially struggling to reach 70 degrees in some areas.

The showery and cool conditions are likely to persist through the weekend.
