Oakland International Airport (OAK) has initiated Phase 1 of the Terminal 1 Check-In Counter Replacement Project, a significant renovation aimed at refreshing the check-in lobby for departing passengers. The project, led by Turner Construction, will modernize the 1962 terminal facility with new finishes, upgraded lighting, and a repainted lobby, creating a brighter and more welcoming space.

Craig Simon, Director of Aviation at the Port of Oakland, expressed enthusiasm about the renovation, stating, “We are so pleased to be kicking off this critical renovation of our Terminal 1 check-in lobby to enhance departing passenger experience at OAK. We look forward to working collaboratively with Turner Construction to optimize the phasing and minimize disruption throughout the duration of this project.”

The renovation will involve replacing check-in counters and overhead soffits, upgrading light fixtures, and repainting ceilings and back walls. Airlines operating in Terminal 1, including Hawaiian Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Alaska Airlines, and others, will experience temporary relocations as their stations are upgraded. The project is expected to be completed by spring 2025.

Phase 1 of the project, which begins this week, will temporarily relocate SATA Azores Airlines, Volaris Airlines/Volaris El Salvador, Spirit Airlines, and Allegiant Airlines. OAK will provide ongoing updates and guidance for passengers through its social media channels.
