The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) is continuing its tradition of honoring Kwanzaa, the Pan-African holiday celebrated by African American families since 1966. To mark the occasion, USPS will hold a first-day-of-issue event for the new Kwanzaa stamp on Wednesday, September 25, at 12:30 p.m. EDT at the Sen. John Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh, PA. The event is free and open to the public, with attendees encouraged to register online.

Roderick Sallay, USPS Director of Legislative Policy and Strategic Development, will be the keynote speaker. The new stamp, designed by Ethel Kessler with artwork by Ehua Holmes, reflects the spirit of Kwanzaa and will be issued as a Forever stamp in panes of 20.

Kwanzaa, celebrated from December 26 to January 1, emphasizes seven core principles: unity, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity, and faith. The holiday honors African heritage and traditions while fostering a sense of unity and pride within the African American community.
