Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible this afternoon in the eastern Sierra south of Lake Tahoe, with additional activity expected in west-central Nevada on Sunday. As Labor Day approaches, increasing winds are likely to create critical fire weather conditions and impact aviation and recreation across the region.

Temperatures are set to cool briefly to near average following the holiday but will rise above average by the end of the upcoming week. The Pacific trough will bring breezy southwest winds on Labor Day, with gusts reaching 30 to 40 mph, potentially causing blowing dust and affecting outdoor activities. A Fire Weather Watch is in effect, highlighting the elevated risk of fires.

As the week progresses, expect a brief cooldown on Tuesday followed by a return to warmer temperatures and dry conditions.
