A trough moving through northern California is bringing a brief respite from the heat today, with temperatures expected to remain below 100 degrees in many areas. However, this cool down is short-lived, as a significant warming trend is anticipated for the rest of the week. Starting Wednesday, temperatures across the lower elevations of the San Joaquin Valley are expected to climb to 105 degrees or higher, with an increased risk of excessive heat through Friday.

Low daytime humidity and poor overnight recovery will elevate the risk of grass fires, particularly in eastern Kern County and the West Side Hills, by mid-week. Additionally, the Sierra Nevada will see scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms on Friday and Saturday as moisture from the south interacts with a new weather system moving in.

Residents should prepare for high heat and take precautions to avoid heat-related issues, while keeping an eye on fire safety and potential thunderstorms later in the week.
