Northwest California is set to experience a noticeable warming trend this week, with peak temperatures expected on Wednesday. After a mild Labor Day, the region will see temperatures climb significantly as high pressure builds in the wake of an upper-level trough, bringing drier air and offshore winds.

Today, the area enjoyed mild conditions as offshore flow cleared coastal stratus, but this will be short-lived. The offshore flow is expected to strengthen tonight, particularly over the ridges in Del Norte County, where gusts of up to 25 mph are likely. These winds will keep skies clear along much of the coast through Tuesday.

As high pressure settles in, temperatures will rise, with interior regions like Humboldt, Mendocino, Trinity, and Lake counties seeing highs potentially exceeding 100 degrees on Wednesday. The National Blend of Models (NBM) indicates a 60% chance of temperatures reaching or exceeding 107 degrees in Big Bar on Wednesday. Even coastal areas will warm up, with temperatures in the 70s and adjacent coastal areas possibly reaching the low 80s before sea breezes develop.
