Phoenix, Arizona, has set a new record for relentless heat as the city hit its 100th consecutive day of temperatures reaching at least 100 degrees Fahrenheit on Tuesday. This unprecedented streak far surpasses the previous record of 76 consecutive days, set in 1993, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

The city, often referred to as the "hottest large city in America," first reached the triple-digit mark on May 27, and has not seen a day below 100 degrees since. NWS meteorologist Sean Benedict described the milestone as "an eye-catching number," emphasizing the severity of the ongoing heatwave.

While Phoenix is known for its scorching summers, 2024 has proven to be particularly extreme. Last year, the city experienced 31 consecutive days of temperatures exceeding 110 degrees in July, a record for that month.
