The Bay Area is set for a slight reprieve from the recent heat wave, starting today, according to the National Weather Service. A weak upper-level trough will bring cooler temperatures, though the region will still experience above-average warmth through early next week. Interior areas of the Central Coast could still hit triple digits, while the Bay Area and North Bay will see highs in the 70s to 90s.

Coastal areas will benefit from the return of cooler marine air, with the Santa Cruz region remaining slightly warmer. Expect low clouds and fog to move inland tonight as the marine layer deepens, bringing overnight temperatures down to the 50s in most areas. A stronger cooling trend is forecast for midweek, as a system from the Gulf of Alaska approaches, promising more relief.
