Southern California is bracing for more hot weather through Monday, with temperatures soaring well above seasonal averages, the National Weather Service reports. Highs today could reach up to 20 degrees above normal, particularly in the valleys and along the coast, where temperatures will stay unseasonably warm despite a weak coastal eddy offering slight relief. Desert and mountain areas will see slightly cooler temperatures but will remain 5 to 10 degrees hotter than usual.

Monsoonal moisture is moving into the region, bringing chances of scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and Sunday. These storms, expected to develop in valleys, mountains, and deserts, could deliver heavy downpours, gusty winds, and frequent lightning. Rain rates may reach up to 0.50 inches per hour, potentially leading to localized flooding.

The pattern continues into Sunday, with a higher probability of thunderstorms and a slight uptick in rainfall intensity. The weather is expected to shift midweek as a trough moves in, bringing cooler and drier conditions across the area.
