The California Highway Patrol (CHP) Santa Cruz unit is reminding drivers of the importance of safety on the roads after a recent traffic stop on Highway 17. On Friday, an officer pulled over a vehicle traveling at an alarming 94 MPH, significantly exceeding the speed limit. The car, which was carrying a child, was cited for speeding and subsequently towed due to the driver’s suspended license.

The CHP Santa Cruz emphasized the preventability of the situation, urging drivers to make better choices. “This incident was 100% preventable with better choices,” said a spokesperson from the CHP Santa Cruz. The department highlighted the critical need for responsible driving, particularly when children are present.

In addition to being cited for speeding, the driver’s vehicle was towed as a result of their suspended license. This enforcement action underscores the CHP’s commitment to road safety and the enforcement of traffic laws.

As the summer season continues and many people head to the beach, the CHP Santa Cruz is urging all drivers to adhere to traffic laws, drive at safe speeds, and make responsible choices. “Let’s all be responsible drivers,” the CHP stated. “Slow down, follow traffic laws, and keep our roads safe for everyone. Your actions behind the wheel can make a huge difference.”
