Vienna-Goreville Cancels Season; CWC to Receive Forfeit Week 3
For the 3rd time in the last 4 seasons, Vienna-Goreville will not play a varsity football schedule. The announcement came last week as BDC teams scrambled to find another opponent to fill the empty week on their schedule. For Carmi-White County, they will once again have a bye week during week 3.
MELHS Grad Broekemeier Hits Game-Tying Homer in Seventh, But Thrillbillies Scored Twice In Eighth To Edge River Dragons
MARION - Metro-East Lutheran graduate Erik Broekemeier, who plays for Grand View State in Des Moines, Ia., hit a game-tying solo home run in the top of the seventh inning, but the Thrillville Thrillbillies scored twice in the bottom of the eighth inning, and it was enough to hold off the Alton River Dragons in a 5-3 decision in a critical Prospect League South Division game played Saturday night at Mountain Dew Park in Marion.

CARBONDALE, Ill. – Southern Illinois was picked to finish fourth in the Missouri Valley Football Conference standings in a preseason poll of the league’s coaches and media. With 42 first-place votes, South Dakota State was the near unanimous pick to win the league, while North Dakota State and South Dakota were picked 2-3. The Salukis return six starters on offense and four on defense from last year’s team that finished 8-5 and won a playoff game over Nicholls State. Southern has made three playoff appearances in the last four seasons.
