J. Marcos Rodríguez, a graduate student at the University of Maine, died suddenly at Harvard Forest on Tuesday. At the time of his death, Rodríguez was working at Harvard Forest as a mentor to undergraduate students in the Summer Research Program in Ecology. Skidompha Genealogy Roundtable July 11
The Skidompha genealogy roundtable at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 11 will feature a visual stroll through 120 years of changes on Main Street in Newcastle. Karen Paz will show examples of historic photos taken throughout the area, noting the people associated with them. She will also show samples of some of the thousands of images including portraits, family gatherings, school events, house photos, and social groups from the late 1800s to mid-1900s that are contained in the Newcastle Historical Society’s Dinsmore-Flye collection.
Search underway in Oxford County for suspect in two violent confrontations
OXFORD COUNTY, Maine — Law enforcement officials in Oxford County were searching for a man from Gilead who they say is believed to be armed and dangerous. Jacob McGurn, 28, is alleged to have fired a gun several times during a physical confrontation with an adult male early on July 4 at a residence in the town of Gilead, fleeing the area before law enforcement arrived, according to a news release from the Oxford County Sheriff's Office.
