The Queens-bound side of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway closes to traffic for repairs in Brooklyn Heights on Oct. 14, 2023.

Get ready to pump those brakes, drivers.

This coming weekend, a roughly 1-mile section of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway in Brooklyn Heights and Dumbo will again close to traffic so that essential repairs can be done, the city Department of Transportation said.

The highway's Queens-bound side is slated to be fully closed from the Atlantic Avenue entrance ramp to the Manhattan Bridge exit ramp from 2 a.m. on June 1 to 4 a.m. on June 3, according to the transportation department. The work will add new concrete and reinforcing steel bars to the BQE near Clark Street and Grace Court to help prolong its lifespan.

Officials said it’s expected to be the last planned repair work to this section of the highway this year. “We are approaching the third and final phase of our interim repair work for 2024 on the BQE to preserve its lifespan and keep it in a state of good repair,” Transportation Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez said in a statement. “As we did in October and April we will keep the public closely updated on our progress as we plan ahead for this work.”

The department is advising drivers to avoid the BQE this weekend — and to expect major delays if they can't. Detours will be posted throughout Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan.
