Water Main Break Repaired in Estherville, Boil Advisory Still in Place
(Estherville)—A water main break in Estherville has been fixed but a boil advisory remains in place for customers in the affected area. Estherville City Administrator Penny Clayton says the water main break occurred around 1 pm Sunday and was repaired around 7:45 pm. The initial affected area included 1st and 2nd Avenues North between 13th and 15th Streets and North 14th and 15th Streets between 1st Avenue North and 4th Avenue North. It was later expanded to include 13th St. from Central to 2nd Ave N (excluding Hy-Vee), and 1st and 2nd Ave North from 12th to 13th Streets.
Whittemore Passes Ban on “Timed” Water Softeners
–The Whittemore City Council approved a resolution on Monday that will call for the removal of any “timed” water softeners within the community. Whittemore City Clerk Linda Farrell tells KLGA News this is part of their efforts to improve their sanitary sewer system and meet requirements from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
Hazelnut Field Day and Orchard Tour set for Kossuth County
FENTON, Iowa – A North Iowa Hazelnut Field Day and Orchard Tour is taking place July 14 at Hazel Acres in Fenton. Healthy Harvest of North Iowa, Nut Haven, The Iowa Nut Growers Association, and Hazel Acres says it’s a chance to learn about hazelnut production, processing, pruning, agroforestry and water quality benefits of perennial crops.
Estherville evaluating how city-owned infrastructure handled flooding
The power went out in most of Estherville on Saturday and City Administrator Penny Clayton says a temporary fix to get electricity flowing again is now permanent. “We worked with Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative to install an emergency tie in…so that we could backfeed power into our system from theirs,” Clayton says. “That will stay in place and will be available when we need an emergency tie in with them or they need one with us.”
