Paul Rossi: Town of New Hampton shut down farmers market
For years before COVID, there has been a farmers market in the town of New Hampton. A place where people could get together, socialize and buy local produce and crafts. COVID unfortunately happened and the nice lady running the farmers market wanted to take a step back. Wanting to keep that going, we said that we'd pick it up and take off with it again. It was going to be held at Rossi's restaurant parking lot on Sundays from 10 am.-2 p.m. Until the town got involved. From wanting police details, to wanting letters from every owner of the property that needed to be notarized, to "you need this document now" on the deadline date, pushing the meeting back another month and fee after fee after fee. The town won. The town would not see a farmers market. If only we were building storage units, then the town would be happy. I urge voters to remember this at the polls next year.
Debby Killington: Town of New Hampton needs new elected officials
Today I logged onto my town's Facebook page only to see more unprofessionalism from town officials. The town secretary made a post calling out a young lady that was trying to make a farmers market event in town and that blew up into a mess. Everyone pointing fingers at everyone. Then today, a selectboard member makes a post referring to them as idiots. It’s funny this comes from the only selectboard member that’s isn’t even from this state. The town of New Hampton needs an overhaul. When you have elected officials and their secretaries calling voters idiots, you know you have a problem. It’s time to get the old men out of elected and appointed positions and get some young dreamers in. The town people call for Eric Shaw's resignation immediately. He is nothing but a bully and this town can be a lot better without him.
