Letters: State should be more concerned about citizens than polluters
Gov. Jeff Landry’s announcement that Louisiana has filed a petition to challenge EPA pollution protections shows us that once again, the state is unwilling to hold polluters accountable as toxic air threatens the health and safety of people who live, work and play nearby. This includes over 400 students at Fifth Ward Elementary School, just 1,500 feet from Denka’s chemical plant, who breathe this unsafe air every day.
Sullivan seeing sixth term as Donaldsonville mayor, council turnover coming
Leroy Sullivan is on the ballot seeking a sixth term as Donaldsonville’s mayor, opposed for the second time by Glen Price. Price’s 2020 bid to unseat Sullivan came up woefully short, winning 30% of the vote in a three-candidate election that Sullivan won without the need of a runoff. The challenger would seem to be better positioned than four years ago, if for no other reason than brand familiarity the second time around.

The city is guaranteed a new mayor, and that individual will be Gonzales’ first black mayor (and it could be the first female chief executive).
