Neighbors react to Grand Bay standoff leaving 1 in critical condition

UPDATE (4:54 p.m.): Neighbors described the moments they heard the shots fired that led to a standoff with the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office.

Meanwhile, the shooter claimed he shot in self-defense.

MCSO said Reginald Thompson shot one of his roommates at around 10 a.m. Thursday. Thomspon, according to MCSO, barricaded himself in the house where the shooting occurred.

Investigators said Thompson, the injured man and a witness were inside the house.

When deputies arrived, they escorted two people, including the injured, to a staging area.

Thompson refused to come out, initiating a standoff with the SWAT team.

Negotiators gave Thompson a phone and negotiated with him for 10 minutes before he came out on his own. The standoff lasted 45 minutes from the time the first deputies arrived, according to investigators.

Due to a medical condition, MCSO said Thompson needed help getting out of the house.

“There were like five of them that went in with the shields in front of them, and they pulled him out on their shoulders,” one neighbor said. “They put him in handcuffs, and when they pushed him over, they all started pulling their handguns out. They were all running towards the front porch.”

Investigators said the man who was shot is in critical condition.

Thompson’s case will go before a Grand Jury.

Charges have not been filed due to Thompson’s claim that he shot in self-defense.

UPDATE (3:39 p.m.): The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office has identified a man who barricaded himself in Grand Bay on Thursday morning.

According to an MCSO news release, Reginald Thompson was the shooter in this incident and barricaded himself inside where the shooting occurred.

MCSO officials said he exited the house to deputies and negotiators after a brief standoff.

The release said Thompson said he shot the other person in self-defense, and his case will be presented to a Grand Jury.

The MCSO release said the person shot was taken to a local hospital where he remains in condition.

UPDATE (12:50 p.m.): The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting on Crawford Lane in Grand Bay after 10 a.m.

According to MCSO, three people they believe to be roommates were in the house.

MCSO says at least one person was shot inside the house.

When the deputies arrived, two people came out of the house.

The other person, who deputies say fired the shots, didn’t come out until 45 minutes later.

Currently, everything is still under investigation, and detectives are not ruling out self-defense.

GRAND BAY, Ala. ( WKRG ) — Detectives are on the scene of a shooting in Grand Bay where one person was airlifted to a hospital, according to the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting happened on Crawford Lane before 10:30 a.m. Thursday, News 5 has learned.

The alleged shooter was still inside the home, but the victim was outside the home and was airlifted to a hospital, according to MCSO.

Just before 11 a.m., the alleged shooter came out of the home and was being questioned.
