MCMILLAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJMN) — The Luce County Sheriff’s Department and other agencies are looking for an out-of-state teenager in the water after searchers believe they drowned on Wednesday.

According to the Luce County Sheriff’s Department, an emergency call for a missing person in the water was reported after 1 p.m. on Wednesday.

They were told a 14 and 15-year-old from Ohio were swimming in Lake Superior near Lake Superior State Campground, east of Grand Marais.

The Sheriff’s Department reported that the waves were coming in at 4-5′ and an undertow had drug the two into deeper water. The 15-year-old was able to get back to shore, but the 14-year-old was unable to fight the current.

The Coast Guard searched by boat and helicopter with help from the sheriff’s department and DNR officers.

On Thursday, the Michigan State Police Dive and Drone Team joined the search.
