Katy Tessman to perform at Unwined Up North during Grand Rapids Riverfest weekend

Celebrated singer-songwriter Katy Tessman is set to perform at Unwined Up North on Friday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. as part of the Grand Rapids Riverfest Weekend.

Tessman’s songwriting celebrates life’s stumbles and summits. Inspired by her life’s challenges and triumphs, her compelling lyrics and original compositions resonate deeply with audiences, making each performance unique and memorable.

Based in the Twin Cities, Katy has roots in Northern Minnesota; raised by educators, her summers growing up were spent on Caribou Lake, 23 miles north of town.

“I have great respect for the arts community in the Rapids area,” says Tessman. “Being the night before the festival, I hope to meet new music lovers and look forward to sharing an evening of stories and songs.”

Tessman’s eagerly awaited album, “Fly” (released October 2023) marks her return to the stage after a twenty-year hiatus. Jeremy Searle of RnR Magazine gave “Fly” a starred review, calling it “a quietly inspiring pleasure.” Recording Artists Guild’s RagMag says Tessman’s new album is “a gorgeous and honest release.”

With a voice full of the wisdom she’s gained through breast cancer survival, heartbreak, and motherhood, Tessman’s straight-from-the-heart songwriting style moves passionately over a diverse emotional and musical terrain. This optimistic and approachable singer-songwriter is also an award-winning children’s book author and was named CHANGEMAKER by Minnesota Women’s Press.

Tessman’s LaPlant guitar, made by local resident guitar luthier Lloyd LaPlant, adds a special touch to her performances, connecting her even more deeply to the community.
