TWO HARBORS — The Grand Rapids girls won against Two Harbors Wednesday to remain unbeaten.

The Thunderhawks improved to 3-0 with a 5-0 victory over the Agates. Along with being undefeated, the team has yet to yield a single goal through three games.

“Our defensive backline has been solid, including Maggie in goal,” says head coach Brooke Moses. The confidence the team has in their defense allows them to play more freely on the offensive side of the ball, and the Thunderhawks showed what they are capable of when they can dictate the pace of play.

“The team did an amazing job moving the ball across the field and keeping possession,” said Moses.

It was a team win against Two Harbors, said Moses, as she points out that all five goals came from different players.

Quinn Cargill scored an unassisted goal. Ava Limberg scored with an assist from Ryan Martinson, Bekah Peterson scored a goal, assisted by Kylie DeBay, Ellie Troumbly was helped by Taelyn Cash and Ryan Martinson scored a goal, with help from Brooklyn Troumbly.

It was a well-rounded effort from Grand Rapids, who are playing and winning as a team through the first three games - a foundation Moses hopes to continue to build on as the season continues.

“Our strength this year has been our ability to move the ball and keep possession as a team. We have strong communication on the field and that is building a nice foundation of trust between players,” she said. “We have a lot of experienced players this year, and our players coming into the game are just as talented and skilled as the ones starting. This is a really special team.

The Thunderhawks have outscored their opponents 7-0 through the first three games, but know that each game is a new game, and Moses plans on keeping them focused on the next one.

“We aren't resting on these wins, we know we have a tough part of our schedule coming up here and we are going to put in the work to improve and keep getting better.”

Grand Rapids will face Duluth East, Sept. 5, on the road.
