Superheroes descend on Mary Free Bed to clean windows, lift spirits

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Superheroes descended on Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital on Friday to not only clean the windows but also lift spirits.

Six employees from S&K Building Services became Batman, The Flash, Hulk, Spiderman, Thor and Wonder Woman to bring smiles to patients.

“I’ve actually been dreaming of having an opportunity to do this and dress up (and) clean a children’s hospital for quite some time now. I see it done around the country from a lot of other companies and luckily this year, we had the opportunity to do the same,” Derek Niemi (aka Thor), window washer, said.

Niemi said that despite the nerves of having a crowd, the looks on the kids’ faces and the joy that they bring dressed up as superheroes make it all worth it.

“That’s what I’m here for, hopefully, I can bring some light into their day and a smile to their face,” he said.
