VICTORVILLE, Calif. – Earlier this month the City of Victorville launched its first-ever podcast to expand its communication platform and further its strategic efforts to foster strong connections with community members. Alterra Park Playground Closed for Equipment Replacement August 19 - September 20
The playground equipment at Alterra Park, located at 4921 Soquel Canyon Parkway, will be temporarily closed beginning Monday, August 19 through Friday, September 20. Staff will be upgrading the playground with new equipment featuring a six-foot slide and an innovative net climbing structure designed for children ages five and up. Staff will also be replacing the surface with a new poured-in playground surface and the sand with wood chips. The existing swing set and 2 to 5-year-old toddler play structure will remain as is. During this time, other park areas will remain open for community use including the picnic area, half basketball court, restroom facilities, and grass areas. Gazebo rentals will not be available during this time.

Moreno Valley Murder – Man Arrested in Fatal Shooting of Moreno Valley Resident
MORENO VALLEY (CNS) – A man suspected of killing a Moreno Valley resident during a confrontation on the south end of the city has been arrested, authorities said Thursday. Joe Miramontes, 31, of Moreno Valley was arrested on Wednesday at an apartment complex in the 1400 block of Laurel Avenue in Pomona, and he was booked on suspicion of murder at the Robert Presley Detention Center, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department reported.

Long Beach hotter than July as containers soar to monthly record
The Port of Long Beach in Southern California set a monthly record in July as retailers got a substantial head start moving inventory heading into the peak shipping season. Total volume was 882,376 twenty-foot equivalent units, an increase of 52.6% from the same month a year ago and 12.4% ahead of the previous record set in July 2022. Imports rocketed 60.5% to 435,081 TEUs while exports grew 16.3% to 104,834 TEUs. Empty containers surged 57.8% to 342,462 TEUs.
