MILTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — An Indiana man was taken to the hospital after a crash with a pickup in Cass County Monday evening, police say.

It happened around 6:30 p.m. on US 12 Highway near Gumwood Road in Milton Township, according to Michigan State Police .

The 27-year-old driver of a Ford F-150 that was towing a Bobcat excavator was headed west on US 12 when he lost control and crossed over the center line. He hit an eastbound vehicle head on.

That vehicle was driven by a 49-year-old man from Granger, Indiana, who was severely injured in the crash. He was taken to the hospital, police say, and was expected to survive.

The pickup driver, who was from Berrien, was not injured, MSP said.

Police do not believe drugs and alcohol were factors in the crash. Both drivers were using seatbelts, MSP said.

US-12 Highway was shut down for hours after the crash for cleanup and investigation.
