U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Michigan Mark Totten announced that two defendants were sentenced to federal prison for their roles in an international fraud conspiracy that stole over $11 million from mostly senior citizens in multiple states. A victim in West Michigan lost $398,000 to the conspiracy. Jayesh J. Lapeer man charged with open murder was victim’s boyfriend, police say
LAPEER COUNTY, MI – A 40-year-old Lapeer man faces an open murder charge following the Aug. 9 shooting death of his girlfriend in their Oregon Township home. Michael Schocke, 40, was arraigned on open murder, which contains both first- and second-degree murder, and felony firearm charges on Monday, Aug. 12, Lapeer County Undersheriff Michael Odette said.
Bat with rabies identified in Fenton, health department says
GENESEE COUNTY, Mich. - A rabid bat has been identified within Genesee County in Fenton, the first confirmed case of rabies in an animal this year according to the Genesee County Health Department. The bat is deceased and poses no further risk to the public at this point, GCHD says.
