BoomFest to celebrate Independence Day with fireworks, fun at The Expo
The region’s largest firework show will light up the night sky in Central Point, celebrating the Fourth of July in dazzling fashion. Organized by the Jackson County Expo along with the city of Central Point and Jackson County Fire District 3, BoomFest will be a large-scale fireworks show to close out the Independence Day festivities in Southern Oregon.
Illegal Marijuana Task Force busts Shady Cove black-market cannabis grow
SHADY COVE, Ore. – Illegal Marijuana Enforcement Team (IMET) detectives served a search warrant yesterday morning, Tuesday, July 2, at a black-market cannabis grow in the 20400 block of Sawyer Road in Shady Cove. The property was once the site of a school but has since been modified to grow black-market cannabis. IMET detectives seized 1,108 illegal marijuana plants, $1600 in cash, 3.5 grams of cocaine, and four firearms. There was no licensing for any type of cannabis growing, handling, or processing at this location.
Firework explosions could be traumatizing to those around you
MEDFORD, Ore. – This Fourth of July, as you get loud and crazy with fireworks try not to “set off” those around you with traumatic experiences. Loud explosions, especially like those in our Fourth of July fireworks can cause strong emotional reactions to trauma sufferers. This includes military veterans, gun violence survivors, or those with post-traumatic stress disorder. They may also not be able to “pull back” from their reactions, so take note of who’s around you when you set off fireworks.
MCINTOSH NAMED WINSTON INTERIM CITY MANAGER
The Winston City Council recently named Thomas McIntosh as interim city manager. City Recorder Cindy Sarti said McIntosh has been working as the city’s community development director for the past two years. Sarti said he was also working closely with City Manager Mark Bower during that time. His new agreement with the city states that the term of the interim role can be terminated by either party, or until the council deems that McIntosh become the permanent manager.
Movie filming in Salem seeking deaf and hard of hearing people to work as extras
Another movie is filming in Oregon this summer, and there’s a casting call for people who are deaf, hard or hearing and/or fluent in American Sign Language to work as extras. The movie, “Flash Before the Bang,” is inspired by a true story about an all-deaf high school track and field team trying to achieve victory at the 1986 Oregon State Track and Field Championship.
